Donations for Auction at Killeen Retired Teacher's Association

As many of you know, poki is a retired school teacher from Killeen (my youngest students that I taught my last year at Peebles are now in the 4th grade!) My faculty gave me my first year's membership in Killeen Retired Teacher's Association. That was the year that KRTA starting having an auction in the Fall to raise money for our book fund and scholarship fund. During the previous school year, we gave 3 college scholarships: two went to KISD paraprofessional employees who were continuing their education to become teachers, and the third to a young man in his second year at UT who had first received a scholarship the year before when he graduated from Ellison High School. We also donated about $2,000 worth of books to children in KISD who otherwise might not own a book! I feel like these are both worthy endeavors on the part of our organization, and I try to support them when I can. For 3 previous years, I have requested handmade cards from my friends - and they never let me down. I can tell you, there are many retired teachers in Killeen anxiously awaiting this year's batch of handmade cards from "poki & friends." Last year's cards raised approximately $110 for the fund (not bad since the auction only raised about $700. My friends Paula Kay and Debra have donated everytime I have asked - and I have received donations from them already this year. The auction is on November 12, so I have set a DEADLINE of October 31 for collections. If you would like to donate some handmade cards, any theme, please call poki or e-mail her (poki04@aol.com) I grouped cards by theme this morning and I already have 25 packets, thanks to Debra, Paula Kay, Heather, Cathie, and one other person whose name escapes me at the moment (she was in my class with Heather at I Scrapbook during August, and we talked about the auction, and she volunteered to donate cards - and left them for me in my class project drawer at I Scrapbook!) I will be making a book donation to the Peebles School library (where I taught) in honor of these good friends who have helped me once again with this project! Thanks to all of you, dear friends one and all!
